heads up

Just a quick note to say that packers round 2 starts tomorrow so my posting might be a bit sporadic from now until we get settled in Italy but I'll try to keep up as much as I can!

lights out

Didn't actually get to go out and hang out with my roommate last night wah wah.  Instead my brother, uncle and I went to the movies and saw The Green Lantern, starring my future husband, Ryan Reynolds (call me!) and Blake Lively. Fun fact: I'm totally one of those girls who loves Marvel comics made movies and sci-fi things...especially when they involve hot guys. Don't even get me started on the new StarTrek movie with Chris Pine! Needless to say, I had delightfully high expectations.

It sucked. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, the special effects were killer but the story itself just seemed like it was trying way too hard to be super cool...although I could just be thinking that because I'm not a fan of Blake Lively. I did love the amount of background information that was obviously necessary but I'm still not sure that I would ever recommend it to anyone. My brother, the 11 year old that he is, absolutely loved the fighting scenes. I feel like the movie relied way too much on the fighting to get people excited.

That's just what I thought though...did any of you guys love it? What other movies have you been watching?

going going gone

I have gone the entire summer without moving from my bedroom and now, all of a sudden, I'm all over the place. Got back from the Poconos and an indoor water park (one word: h-two-oh-llercoaster) yesterday evening, spent the night in my own bed and now I'm in DC/ northern VA until Monday visiting some family before we leave (two weeks from today...eek!). I'm thrilled to finally get out of the house but couldn't this have been spread out a little? Just kidding....I'm just happy to be out of my bed haha. About to try to go meet up with my roommate to hit the town. Pictures to come I hope!

what a doll

Confession: I am a huge book worm. I was one of those kids who thought library time was the best part of the week and would stagger down the hallways with a stack of books as tall as I was. Even in college, where asking students to read for fun is the same as asking us to give up Thirsty Thursdays, I was one of the few people I knew who actually made time for fun reading...and by "made time," I really mean that I put off my actual work. Summer obviously frees up so much more time and lets me explore so many new books. I actually just finished reading Valley of the Dolls the other day and I completely loved it! Without giving away too much, the story follows three friends from their early twenties to their mid-to-late thirties as they learn to navigate life in New York City, fall in love, become Broadway stars, get married and deal with their own personal demons. The "dolls" in the title actually refers to sleeping pills that all of the characters end up using or misusing at some point throughout the novel. The characters were all super easy to relate to which I was really surprised about considering the story is set in the late 1940s! Seriously, I never really thought of drug abuse, abortion or lesbian love affairs as something that happened back in those days so it was a really interesting read. It was also kind of thick but I got so involved with Anne, Neely and Jennifer that it was almost impossible to to put down.

What books are you guys reading this summer? I'd love to get suggestions for new things to read!

nailed it

If there's one thing I love it's nail polish. My dresser boasts an impressive display of at least 15 to 20 different colors. I love that it's so easy to apply, cheap, and that it can really change your mood just by looking at your fingertips. I always have to talk myself out of buying more bottles because, honestly, what normal person needs that many different colors? Besides, I can never just stop at one. My latest promise to myself: no more nail polish  until at least November. It's only the first official day of summer and I've already cracked. Stopped in at ULTA today and got sidetracked by the bright sunny colors just begging to just be tested. After painting each of my nails a different color, I finally decided on a neon pink and a more dusky blue. This is actually pretty unusual for me because I usually find myself drawn to darker colors during the summer and jewel tones during the winter. I'm not generally the hot pink nail polish kind of person but I have been obsessed with obnoxiously bright colors lately and these were perfect.

These aren't my fingers but, if possible, the color looks even brighter on my nails. Seriously. It looks like Barbie threw up on them...THAT'S how bright they are.

Even though I said that the blue is a duskier color, it still more than holds it own against the supah pink my fingers have on right now.

I'm off to the Poconos for a few days with the family and I don't think I'll be bringing my computer so I most likely won't be posting again till the weekend but I'll try to come back with loads of stories to share. Have a great rest of your week!

Happy fathers day!

Spent father's day with the fam hitting the sites in Philadelphia. It was actually the perfect day for sightseeing...not too hot, just the right amount of clouds and a beautiful breeze. It was also a great day to break in my that new/old camera my mom gave me. More about the camera and trip later but just wanted to say a super big
Happy Father's Day
to this guy right here.

sup little broski

Thanks Dad for always listening to me, believing in me, helping me with my problems and letting me listen to my radio station in the car. I couldn't ask for a better one

fiyah powah

Took my dog for a walk later than usual tonight and I was totally blown away by the amount of fireflies that I found during the short time I was out. I don't know what it is about fireflies that makes them so cool and interesting but it probably has something to do with the fact that their appearance truly indicates the beginning of summer, long nights, hanging out with friends and general awesome-ness. Is it weird that I actually forgot that fireflies existed for a while? I went to high school in Texas and I don't think I ever saw a single firefly. Another point for the East Coast...although, let's be honest, Texas totally makes up for its lack of fireflies in other point categories.

ciao bella

To say that I'm excited for my year in Italy might be a bit of an understatement. I mean, yeah bunches of college graduates take that year off to travel for a while but how many get to do that and still come home at night to their parents' cooking. I'm so grateful for the opportunities that being an Army Brat has given me, especially this one. I've been scouring the interwebs for pictures of my future homeland and it is just so beautiful. I can't wait to actually go out there and experience these things for myself. Until then, though, I think I'm just going to watch the Lizzie McGuire movie a bajillion times and plan how to accidentally get an Italian pop star to fall in love me...doable right?

Ciao!

relax-ie in a maxi

...terrrrrible rhyme. I know.

I went to the mall today with a MISSION and it was totally successful! I FINALLY bought the perfect maxi skirt! Do you ever get this image in your head of the perfect article of clothing and you know that you simply need to have it but you can't find it anywhere? Well I found mine! I wanted a skirt long enough to actually reach my feet which can be hard to find since I'm so tall (five eleven wuddup!) in a solid color. I also wanted it to be straight down without any of the ruffly stuff found on most maxi skirts...I'm not trying to do that "Little House in the Prairie" look, thanks but no thanks. The skirt has a fold over waist so it can even double as a dress! Best part: it was on sale for $17! I found it in the last store I went into at the mall today, Old Navy! Probably the first time I've bought something from Old Navy in a few years but I totally dig it...I might have to go back and look around sometime when I actually have time to linger.

I like my beats fast and my bass down low

A lot of factors go into the making of a perfect summer, but the one that I always think really defines a summer is the playlist. There's just something about certain songs that really just transport me right back to a certain time in my life. Like M.I.A's Paper Planes will never NOT remind me of the very end of my freshman year and I have to bust out my pc's dance to Bottoms Up literally the second it comes on. I've been trying to come up with the perfect playlist for this summer, such an important and transitional period in my life and I'm glad there are so many contenders out there for my favorites right now. Here are some of the songs that I've been listening to on repeat for the past few weeks.

Lemonade - Daniel Revel Miller
Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine
The Edge of Glory - Lady GaGa
Till Death - Wynter Gordon
Rolling in the Deep (Remix) - Adele ft. Childish Gambino
Cinema - Benny Benassi (Skrillex Remix)
Young, Wild and Free - Wiz Khalifa ft. Snoop Dogg

Any suggestions? I love hearing new music!

get down, get down, get deeper and down...saturday night

**NOTE: this was supposed to be posted last night but then my power went out in the middle of my writing and, of course, my laptop wasn't fully charged. Whoops!

Ah the life of a recent graduate! It's just fun, fun and even more fun all the time, especially on the weekends (please note the heavy use of sarcasm there). Alright, that's actually not fair. The post grad life definitely has its perks, one of which being the complete and utter lack of exams or pop quizzes or mandatory movie viewings. These are all great things. But right now I can only think of the negatives...or rather, one negative, in particular. Weekends are suddenly a whole different ballgame. Right now, at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night, I am crafting. Don't get me wrong! I love crafting things and I'm glad that I finally have the chance to tackle a project that I've been meaning to work on literally since my high school graduation but I have become accustomed to a certain lifestyle and that lifestyle generally consists of fratting my fucking face off. This, needless to say, is quite the departure from what I am used to. I know, I know....i experience this every summer. But this summer is different. As of this summer, I know that I can never ever do those things again. It’s weird. I know I have this whole other exciting and nerve wracking world to look forward to but it’s scary! It also doesn’t help that I just finally caught up on the final season of Greek. Thanks for the slap in the face, perspective.

But you know what? I had a GREAT four years and I have to see what’s next. So here’s to more crafty weekends...maybe after this project, I’ll finally get around to starting my high school scrapbook! Better late than never, right?

sorry i suckkkk

ugh you guys! i am so unbelievably sorry that i have completely neglected doing these posts in the past few months. you never really realize how desperate you are to soak up e v e r y last little bit of the college life until it's staring you in the face. At that moment, everything else just kind of fail to catch your attention. As of almost three weeks ago, I am an official college graduate and it is a cuh-raaaazy feeling...one that I am not completely loving just yet. But there is a bright side! Being done with school and unemployed for the time being (ugh. anybody want to offer me a job?) means that I have so much more time to blog and take just a little bit of time for myself. Of course, the fact that I'm going to be in ITALY next year is also a huge bonus!

In the next few weeks, I hope I can bring everyone up to date with me and entertain you with plenty of stories about the end of a great 4 years and what is sure to be an adventure in Europe. Hope you're as excited about it as I am!
